In a remarkable start to the 2026 Formula 2 season, Nikola Tsolov dominated the Feature Race at the Australian circuit, showcasing his skills with a clear victory in the challenging environment. Tsolov, who is embarking on his first full-time campaign in Formula 2, led the race with poise and speed.
"I felt amazing today, the car was working brilliantly, and I just focused on maintaining my pace and hitting my marks," Tsolov said after crossing the finish line.
While Tsolov secured the win, the race had its share of drama. The pole-sitter, Dino Beganovic, experienced a disappointing start which pushed him down the order. Although he fought back to rejoin the lead battle, a mechanical issue forced him to retire.
"It was frustrating not to finish, especially after working hard to get back into contention," acknowledged Beganovic.
Other drivers faced setbacks as well. Martinius Stenshorne and Alex Dunne from Rodin Motorsport began strongly, even forming a temporary 1-2. However, an unfortunate collision between the teammates into Turn 1 ended both their races prematurely.
A bright spot for the weekend was debutant Colton Herta. The American driver finished seventh, demonstrating considerable talent and tenacity despite the tumultuous nature of the race. "Finishing in the points on my debut is a dream come true," Herta expressed positively.
The final tally for the Feature Race showed Tsolov crossing the line first after 33 laps, followed by Rafael Camara in second place and Laurens Van Hoepen securing third. Tsolov completed the race with a +1.669s lead over Camara, who transitioned to F2 after winning the 2025 Formula 3 Championship.

In the subsequent Sprint Race, Joshua Durksen claimed victory for Invicta Racing in an enthralling, high-paced 23 laps of competition. Despite a rocky start that saw him drop to third position, Durksen's determination shone through as he made aggressive moves to regain the lead before the halfway mark.
"It was about staying calm and focused after the start. I knew I had pace, and I just had to find the right moment to make my moves," stated Durksen, reflecting on his drive.
Following him across the line was Noel Leon, who secured second place for Campos Racing, just +2.139s behind, and Alex Dunne completing the podium in third.
Lap eight of the Sprint Race drew significant attention when Herta and Tsolov made contact, causing Tsolov to spin. This incident was reviewed by race stewards, adding to the weekend's tension. "It’s part of racing; these things happen, but we’ll learn from it and come back stronger," commented Herta following the incident.
Gabriele Mini also emerged as a surprise performer, navigating from the back of the grid to secure a sixth-place finish, displaying his overtaking prowess throughout the race while the safety car introduced late in the race spiced up the strategy decisions.
